Valerie was born and raised in a military family in Great Falls, Montana. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and later her doctorate of nursing practice degree from Montana State University-Bozeman. She has worked in nursing for 27 years in hospitals in her community and decided to focus on mental health care after seeing the high need for care in her rural communities. She loves telehealth as it provides easy access to psychiatric care to Montana's rural population and plans to work well past the usual retirement age. She lives with her husband, son, cats, dogs, and pet pig. She enjoys all needle arts and spending time with her family.
